I was proud to serve my country with the UDR and am sorry to see the home battalions disbanded. Memories are all that remain now but my comrades I will never forget.

In honoured memory of Lieutenant Alan Gingles, late the Royal Irish Rangers. Ex Rhodesian Light Infantry,Sealous Scouts and 5th Reconnaissance Regiment (5 Recce) of the South African Defence Forces. Alan was killed in action on 15th October 1981 deep inside enemy territory near Doeroi,Mozambique. He was leading a three man special forces team on a sabotage operation. His two fellow Recce operators were lost in the same action. Never forgotten by his family, friends and colleagues.
