Noel woodhead,
Jack Hartes book "to the limits of endurance" covers the
entire period that your father served in the faughs. It would give you
a first hand account of what they had to endure

Just a quick note to say a proud "very well done" to the
Battalion, who gave Marty a much deserved send off yesterday. The
tributes by both the C.O and Billy brought a tear to my eyes. I dont
live too far from Martys resting place, and will ensure a poppy will
be placed by him each 11th November.

I have just returned home from Sowerby Bridge, and the very fitting
and memorable funeral service of Marty Campbell. Whilst this is a very
sad time and a great loss to Martys family and friends, we can all
rejoice in the friends we have met again of which we have not seen for
many years. Although we may be getting older, balder and our waste
bands are straining it was as if it was yesterday we all spoke with
each other. So it is very fitting that Marty has brought us all
together again even if it is a very sad RV.

If you leave the Army with insufficient service for an immediate
pension, you are entitled to a preserved pension, provided that you
have at least 2 years service (counting from the age of 21 for
officers and 18 for soldiers). Preserved pensions are payable at the
age of 60, or earlier in the event of permanent disablement.
Gratuities are also paid at this time, again at the rate of three
times the annual pension awarded.
