1st meeting of the east belfast branch proved sucessful with a good
turnout.
the aim of the meeting was to brief members on progress and nominate a
chairman, treasurer and secretary which went ahead
an interesting meeting with a few points raised.
as chairman can i please emphasise that this is an association ie open
to all former soldiers that is rangers 1st and 2nd battalion, udr,
royal irish regiment and of course our former regiments. also despite
our advice on naming the branch east belfast as there still exists a
belfast branch it is open to belfast men north south east and west/
we are having a get together in december at our new venue where we
hope wives partners and freinds will be made welcome for christmas
drinks.
date for this event tbc and i look forward to a good party in good
ranger style

Greetings to the Ranger world.
You will all no doubt be aware that the Yorkshire Branch has been
having meetings with the Richmond Council to request the opportunity
to host the 40th Anniversary of the Formation of the Royal Irish
Rangers in the Town of Richmond on 5th July 2008.
This request has been met with letters from the Yorkshire Police with
requirements for financing for the attending police numbers to control
traffic as well as we also requiring to have a Risk Assessment
prepared for the Parade, have insurance cover and a detailed map of
the proposed route of the march for the Highways Agency to vet.
A further meeting with the Mayor, Town Clerk and Senior members of the
Council advisery body was held immediatly following "The Service
Of The Crosses" on 10th November in the Council Chambers,
attended by Tom Ripley (Yorkshire Ranger Branch Secretary) Geoff
Kincaid (branch member) and I to push on with our request.
The Mayor informed us that he would have our request tabled at a main
council meeting to be held on Monday 19th November.
This request was put to the Council by the Mayor, supported by the
Town Clerk and Advisery Council Members.
We have only been informed by the Richmondshire Council today (20th
November) and I am delighted to say that
THE COUNCIL DECIDED TO SUPPORT OUR REQUEST TO HOLD THE 40TH
ANNIVERSARY PARADE IN RICHMOND 2008.
The council also decided to announce that the 40th Ranger Anniversary
Parade be called a CIVIC PARADE/EVENT and the significance of this
civic event now means we DO NOT have to finance the attending police,
provide a Risk Assessment or take out parade Insurance cover.
We have also been informed (thanks to the support of Gordy that the
RSM of our old home turf(the original parade home of the formation of
the Rangers) has made the square available to us to hold the 40th
Anniversary Parade. Tom Ripley and I have been invited by the RSM to
see if the square will be suitable as they have since our formation of
the Rangers placed a building on part of the square.
We need to check that there will be sufficient space to hold a parade
on the square.
So Lads, we now have the Town Of Richmond for our parade in view of
the general public which will advertise the Regiment and a square (if
not what was our home then there are others in Catterick) to hold our
40th Anniversary Parade.
The venue for a sit down meal is being investigated at his very time
while also enquiring of accommodation.
Gordy, those lads within the Rangers Association doing their bit (you
know who you are) and the Richmond Town Council.
I will keep you informed through this link as new info comes
through.

As a footnote it is now down to every branch of the Association to
ensure that this event is a success, by offering help with whatever is
required, and making sure their members are on parade.
